Re: HB588 – Rules of the Road - Duty to Remain at the Scene of an Accident – Penalties - Support

Dear Delegate Vallario:

HB588 would increase the maximum penalty for specified offenses relating to a driver's duty to remain at the scene of an accident.

The Legislative Committee of the Carroll County Chamber of Commerce supports this bill. The risks of injuries and the consequential financial risks resulting from hit and run drivers are enormous and climbing. It is therefore important that we legislate to deter this sort of behavior.

We therefore ask that your committee give this bill a favorable report.
