It chose me. I was an elementary/middle school teacher but left when we started a family. A few years later, I begin looking for a part-time job, and found one in the local public library. Four years later, I was made director, and went back to school for the first of two MLS degrees.
Being selected as President of the Maryland Library Association and of the Association for Small & Rural Libraries were two highpoints of my career. To be chosen to lead an organization of one’s peers is a high compliment and an honor.
Carroll has so many great local businesses, but my favorite is JeannieBird’s. The food is wonderful, and I really love the relaxed, comfortable environment. You get to see everyone there.
Having only been here for just under 3 years (16 months of which was during COVID) I have not had time to do a lot of volunteering. Enjoy my work with the Rotary Club and Kiwanis Club and how they support so many different organizations in the community.
Like to catch up on my reading for fun, I enjoy travel, golfing, painting and watching movies.
I enjoy Pop Culture Happy Hour– it is fun and informative on a variety of topics and “The Way I Heard It” by Mike Rowe. TV Show – I can recite whole sections of MASH. My family has watched for years and will often quote it. Book? I cannot believe you are asking a librarian her favorite book (lol). That would be a long list, however, if you have not read Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett or Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte, you really should.
Since I am originally from Philly, I suppose it could be Rocky’s Eye of the Tiger or even the Fresh Prince of Bel Air Rap but the song I use for inspiration a lot is titled “Unwritten” by Natasha Bedingfield “Today is where your book begins, The rest is still unwritten.”
Favorite Quote – The greatest pleasure in life is doing what people say you cannot do. – Walter Bagehot
Being a part of this great network. It brings opportunities to do a great deal of good for our community. People need to understand what a rare thing it is for a community to work in collaborative environment such as the one we have in Carroll County. That environment needs to be protected and valued. The Chamber has a key role in that.
