1.) What does your organization do?
We provide all types of residential mortgages. My particular office specializes in Home Equity Conversion Mortgages (federally insured HECM) and Home Safe “Jumbo” reverse mortgages. I am a Certified Senior Advisor (CSA)
2.) What was your first job?
Soda Fountain Attendant, Peoples Drug Store
3.) How did you choose the field you are in?
After a career (35 yrs) with Southern States Co-operative, I took early retirement and joined my son’s mortgage brokerage in 2002.
4.) What career highlight or accomplishment are you most proud of?
Helping people live a better life. This has occurred during my Southern States career, My time as Mayor of Taneytown and in my capacity as a licensed mortgage provider.
5.) What is one of your favorite local businesses and why?
Well, most obviously, my own business, Mutual of Omaha Reverse Mortgages. Why?, because my product dramatically improves the well-being of my clients.
6.) What is one of your favorite nonprofits to volunteer with or to support, and why is it important to you?
We are blessed, in Carroll County to have an abundance of caring and effective non-profits. Some of those which I support and endorse are; Caring & Sharing Ministries of Western Carroll, Carroll County Food Sunday, Shepherd’s Staff, Mission of Mercy, Habitat for Humanity, and of course the Taneytown History Museum……. There are many more.
7.) How do you like to spend your days off?
I love to fish; I don’t seem to get enough time to do that though. I like history, especially local history and history about the War Between the States. I like to spend time outdoors, anywhere near the water, beach, or mountains, or even in my own backyard is fine with me.
8.) What book, TV show or podcast would you recommend and why?
The Holy Bible is number one on my list, but I enjoy history, biography, historical fiction, are favorites. Ken Follett is an author I particularly admire. I’m not much of a TV watcher but I do like the Motor Trend Chanel, British shows on PBS & watch the Nats & Orioles on MASN.
9.) If you had a theme song what would it be?
Fishin’ Blues (Taj Mahal & others 🙂
10.) What is your favorite quote or piece of advice?

11.) What do you like about being a Chamber member?
Again, being a Chamber member gives me the opportunity to make a difference. It is also a great way to stay in touch with what is going on in this special place called Carroll County. Being able to interact with Carroll’s business leaders is invaluable.
